How to Get the Shiva Edge Sword in Chrono Trigger

The most effective weapons and armor your characters can use in the Super Nintendo role-playing game Chrono Trigger can be found in locked black boxes that are hidden in hard-to-find locations throughout the game world. The devastatingly powerful Shiva Edge Sword is locked in one of these boxes, deep inside the ruins of an old castle near the village called Choras.

Instructions

  Play through the game until your party obtains the time-traveling ship called the Epoch.

  Use the Epoch to travel to the year 600 A.D. and go to the village of Choras. Speak with the town carpenter, who will tell you he cannot finish repairing the nearby ruins because his tools have been stolen.

  Travel to the year 1,000 A.D. and borrow a set of tools from the present-day carpenter. Return to 600 A.D. and give the tools to the past version of the carpenter.

  Head into the ruins north of the village and wipe out the monsters within them, so the carpenter can finish his repair job.

  Walk to the north end of the ruins and inspect the locked black box on the left side of the room. Choose the dialog option to leave the box alone when you are prompted to either open it or leave it locked.

  Return to the year 1,000 A.D. and re-enter the ruins. Open the locked box on the left side of the room at the north end of the building to receive the Shiva Edge Sword.
