How to Acquire the Hidden Summon Spells in Final Fantasy 4

There are plenty of summoning spells that the summoner named Rydia can acquire normally in Final Fantasy 4, but the developers of the game also threw in several hidden summons that can only be found by battling hordes of random monsters. The chances of them being found after a battle are low, but with this guide you will have a good shot at acquiring them all.

  Early in the game, travel to an area where the "Tricker" or "Imp" monsters are found in random battles. Many of the early areas have these creatures, including the land around Castle Baron and the Misty Cave.

  Fight random battles that feature Imps or Trickers until one of them drops the "Imp" item after the battle. Once you've acquired it, go to the item-menu screen and use the "Imp" item. As long as the summoner Rydia is in your party, she will learn the spell and be able to summon imps in combat.

  Play through the game until you reach an area that has the "Grenade" and "Balloon" monsters. Fight these enemies repeatedly until they drop a "Bomb" item. Use this item on Rydia and she will learn the "Bomb" summon spell.

  Continue on to an area that has "Mage" enemies in random battles. Keep fighting them until you get the "Mage" item. Use it on Rydia and she will learn to summon a Mage during combat.

  Find an area of the game that has "Eagle," "Rock Baby" or "Cockatrice" monsters in random battles. If you fight enough of them, you will eventually receive a "Cockatrice" item that can be used on Rydia to have her learn the summon spell.
