How to Use Hamachi for Terraria

The multiplayer component of "Terraria" enables you to explore the game world with a group of friends. A popular way to create your own private server for friends is through the use of the Hamachi application. This application streamlines the process of connecting computers over the Internet and is used for creating and connecting to servers. If you are the player creating the server, you must share information such as the network ID and password with other players that wish to join.

Instructions

  1. Hosting A Server

    • 1

Launch Hamachi and click the button with the "Power" icon.

    • 2

Click the "Client name" text input box and enter a name for your client.

    • 3

Click the "Create" button and then click "Create a new network."

    • 4

Enter a network ID and password for your network and then click the "Create" button. The network ID is to help other players identify the network as yours and the password prevents access from those who you have not shared the password with.

    • 5

Sign in to your Steam account and launch "Terraria."

    • 6

Select "Multiplayer" from the main menu and then click "Host & Play."

    • 7

Select your character and world and then enter a server password. This password prevents random players from joining your game and causing trouble.

    • 8

Click "Accept" to start the game. Your friends can now use Hamachi to join your server.

    Joining A Server

    • 10

Click the "Client name" text input box and enter a name for your client.

    • 11

Click "Network" and select "Join an existing network" from the list of options.

    • 12

Enter the network ID and password in the requested fields and then click the "Join" button. This information is obtained from the person hosting the server that you want to join.

    • 13

Sign in to your Steam account and launch "Terraria."

    • 14

Select "Multiplayer" from the main menu and then click "Join."

    • 15

Select your character and then enter the server IP Address. This is Hamachi IP address of the person whose network you joined. The information is displayed next to the power button on the Hamachi client and is obtained from the person hosting.

    • 16

Click "Accept" and then enter "7777" (without quotation marks) as the server port. This is the default port for "Terraria" multiplayer.

    • 17

Click "Accept" and enter the server password. This is the password for the "Terraria" server created by the host and not the Hamachi password.

    • 18

Click "Accept" to join the server and play the game.
