How to Switch Download Servers on Steam

The first time you load Steam, the service will attempt to pick a content server, commonly called a download server, near your location to provide you with the fastest possible download speeds. Valve, the creator and distributor of Steam, recommends that you switch your content server in the event you're experiencing slow download speeds with the service. You can switch the content server you download games and applications from directly from within the Steam service.

     Click "Steam" from the menu at the top of the screen and click "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

     Click the "Downloads" tab in the Settings window.

     Select a new download server for Steam to use from the Download Regions drop-down menu.

     Click "OK" to save your changes and begin using the new content server.
