Give Your Computer a Reserved (Static) IP Address
Open a Web browser on your computer and type "192.168.1.1" into the address bar. This is the default IP address for Netgear routers. Press "Enter" and type in your username and password to access the configuration utility. The defaults are "admin" and "password."
Click the "Attached Devices" link in the navigation area. Your computer, along with its MAC address and current IP address assignment, will be listed here. Select your MAC address and press "Ctrl-C" to copy it.
Click the "LAN Setup" link in the "Advanced" section of the navigation. Click the "Add" button in the "Address Reservation" section of the page.
Type the IP address you want to reserve for your computer in the "IP Address" box; for example, "191.168.1.15". See the Tips section for important information about what IP address to reserve for your computer.
Press "Ctrl-V" to paste your computer's MAC address into the "MAC Address" box. Click "Apply" to save your settings and reserve the IP address for your computer.
Forward the Ports used by "Defiance"
Click the "Port Forwarding/Port Triggering" link in the Advanced section.
Select the "Port Forwarding" option under the "Please Select the Service Type" heading and then click the "Add Custom Service" button.
Type a name for the port forwarding service, such as "Defiance Rule 1." Select "TCP" from the "Protocol" drop-down menu and type "50000" into the "Starting Port" and "Ending Port" boxes. Type your computer's reserved IP address in the "Server IP Address" boxes and click "Apply."
Repeat steps 2-3 of this section again, but this time call the service "Defiance Rule 2" and type "6540" into the Starting Port and Ending Port boxes.
Repeat steps 2-3 one more time, but this time call the service "Defiance Rule 3," select "UDP" from the Protocol drop-down menu, type "40000" in the Starting Port box and type "45000" in the "Ending Port" box.
Click the "Log Out" button to log out of your router configuration. Unplug or turn off your Netgear router and then plug it back in or restart it. Your computer will now be given its reserved IP address and the ports for the "Defiance" video game will now be forwarded.
