How to Play Minecraft Right After You Download It on a PC

Created in 2009, "Minecraft" has sold millions of copies and quickly became a household name, even inspiring a line of Lego products. Unlike many computer games, "Minecraft" installs and runs with almost no setup required -- all you need to do is download the game and log in to your account. If you do not have Java on your computer, you also need to install it for the game to work on your PC.

  Go to the folder where you saved the "Minecraft" download and double-click it to run the "Minecraft" launcher.

  Enter your email address and password in the Log In section of the launcher. If you do not have a Mojang account yet, click "Register" and fill in the information on the website to create an account. You must buy "Minecraft" on your Mojang account before you can play the game.

  Click "Play" to log in and launch the game. The first time you run the game, and after any game updates, the launcher will take some time to download game files before starting.

  Click "Singleplayer" or "Multiplayer" after the game window appears to begin playing. To get started with a multiplayer game, select a game listed on your local network, or click "Direct Connect," and then type in the address of a server online. To start a single player game, press "Create New World," enter a game name, and then optionally change the world settings. Press "Create New World" to start a new game.
