How to Get Rid of Gallus's Encoded Journal in Skyrim

Gallus's Encoded Journal is an item used in two quests during the Thieves' Guild arc in "Skyrim": Speaking with Silence and Hard Answers. If you still have the journal and haven't completed the quests, it's because the item is marked as a quest item and cannot be removed until after the quests are over. Finishing the Thieves' Guild quest line will make the item removable. If you can't remove it after becoming the guild master and returning the skeleton key, the game may have glitched. Glitched items can't be removed on game consoles, but they can be removed with console commands on PC.

     Launch "Skyrim" and load your game. You must be in a game to use console commands to change "Skyrim." Settings changed will only apply to the game where they were adjusted.

     Press "~" to open the console menu.

     Type "player.removeitem 00CEDA6 1" to remove Gallus's Encoded Journal from your list of items.

   • 4

     Press "~" again to close the console menu.
