What to Do When BattleForge Servers are Down

When attempting to log in to "BattleForge" -- an online game in which players must build a virtual deck of cards and use those cards to defeat their opponents in battles -- you may occasionally receive an error message warning that the servers are currently down. Several different issues can prevent your computer from being able to log in to your "BattleForge" server, from server maintenance to Internet connectivity problems.

BattleForge Servers
- Because "BattleForge" card decks are hosted online, it is impossible for players to play the game when their server is down. Upon creating an account, players have to select a server to host their account on. Players cannot change servers at a later time. Choosing your own server allows you to select one close to your geographical location. Because there are several "BattleForge" servers located around the world, it is possible for a certain server to be down while the others are still running, therefore preventing only a segment of the entire "BattleForge" community from being able to play.
Maintenance
- Like most other online video games, the "BattleForge" servers can sometimes be taken offline for maintenance. This occurs either when a bug is found on a specific server or, more frequently, when the developers of the game decide to introduce new features. You can check for server maintenance announcements from the "BattleForge" development team by following the team's official Twitter feed.
Internet Connection
- Your computer may sometimes prevent you from logging in to the "BattleForge" servers. If you are unable to connect to the servers, first check if your computer is currently connected to the Internet, for example by attempting to load a website. If your computer is unable to load a random website, check if your modem or router's Ethernet cable is properly connected to your computer. You can also contact your Internet service provider's help desk and ask them to diagnose your Internet connection.
Firewall
- Firewalls protect your computer from certain security threats by preventing unknown applications from sending and receiving data over the Internet. Firewalls can either be installed directly on your computer or integrated into your router. If you are unable to connect to the "BattleForge" servers, ensure that your firewall allows the "BattleForge" application to transmit data over the Internet.
