A Fix for Braid for PC

"Braid," a critically acclaimed puzzle game for the PC, takes you on a journey to a fantasy land and gives you the power to control time. The developers of "Braid" acknowledge several problems with the game, such as slowdown while playing, crashing and graphical glitches. The latest update for "Braid" fixes most of these problems. Adjusting your game or graphics card settings may also fix certain problems.
  1. Download the Latest Update Version

    • In April 2009, "Braid" developers released the latest update for the game on their official blog. This update fixes crashing when the game starts and crashing when changing the game's language. If you cannot move the hand on the puzzle screen, or if the hand moves by itself, download this update. The update also fixes screen stretching and game slowdown, as well as other miscellaneous graphical problems. The update is not compatible with older versions of the game. If you attempt to play an earlier version of the game after installing the update, the game may reset your save file.

Fix for Athlon FX CPU Users

    • The "Braid" game was originally designed for computers with Intel processors. Intel processors use an instruction set called Streaming SIMD Extensions 2, or SSE2. The Athlon FX processor does not support SSE2, so if your computer uses this processor, you may experience a crash when you try to start the game. Go to the official "Braid" blog to download a fix for this problem. The April 2009 update may also correct the error.

    Fix for "TODO" Error Message

    • When you attempt to start "Braid" on the PC, an error message sometimes appears. The message reads "TODO: 'File Description' has encountered an error." Downloading the latest update corrects this problem, but if you do not want to get the update, run the game in windowed mode. To run in windowed mode, right-click the "Braid" icon and select "Properties." Click on the box next to Target and type "-windowed" after "C:\Program Files\Braid." If you play the game through Steam, right-click the game icon. Click "Properties" and "Set Launch Options," and then type "-windowed."

    Fix for "Braid" Slowdown

    • "Braid" may slow down while running due to an issue with Nvidia graphics cards and vertical sync. If the April 2009 update does not fix this, forcing vertical sync on may resolve the problem. To do this, open the Nvidia control panel by right-clicking on your desktop. When the control panel opens, access the "Manage 3D Settings" option under the 3D Settings menu. Click on the "Add" button to open a file browser. Browse to the braid.exe file and double-click it. Look for the Vertical Sync option at the bottom of the window, and change the option to "Force on."
