The Sims 2 Install EasyInfo.exe Error

"The Sims 2," released for the PC in 2004, has had 8 expansion packs released as well, including "The Sims 2: Pets." When you encounter an installation error while installing "The Sims 2" or any expansion pack, the most common cause is user error.
  1. "The Sims 2: Pets"

    • Released in 2006, "The Sims 2: Pets" expansion pack adds a variety of pets to the game, such as dogs and cats. Any Sim can own a pet, which appears as a family member that you can control. Included with the expansion pack are new animations for your Sim interacting with your pet and new objects for your pet, such as food bowls and pet toys.

    EasyInfo

    • Also included with "The Sims 2: Pets" was the re-introduction of the EA EasyInfo program seen in the original "The Sims" game. If your copy of "Sims 2" suffered an unexpected crash or an error, the quickest way to a solution is to run the EasyInfo program found in your "The Sims 2: Pets" directory on your hard drive. Then EasyInfo scans your computer and tells you the exact nature of your problem, such as that your video card drivers need to be updated or that a certain computer component does not meet the minimum requirements for the game.

    Installation Errors

    • It's important when installing "The Sims 2" and all subsequent expansions to install them in the order they were released. This is because each expansion updates the base game, and installing the expansion packs out of order can cause installation errors or problems running the game. However, it is also possible to receive notice that a certain component could not be installed with the error message ""A problem occurred when trying to transfer the 'xxx.exe' from the media." The installation closes at that point, making it impossible to install the game to your hard drive and play.

    User Error

    • The cause for the "transferring from the media" error message is user error. If you have any scratches or smudges on the bottom of your disc, when your computer attempts to copy a file from the damaged part of the disc to your hard drive, it fails due to the data being unreadable. Where you have scratched or smudged your disc is where the error occurs --for example, if you have scratched your disc in the location containing the "EasyInfo.exe" file, you will receive the error message that the EasyInfo file cannot be transferred. If this occurs, clean your disc with a soft cloth or replace it with a non-damaged disc.
