Instructions
Sketch the character on paper. The character should have sketches from several different angles. Scan the images onto a computer and import them into a new profile and image planes on Maya.
Build the mesh of the character. Cylinders can be used to create a rough character to start with. Use the editing tools in Maya to shape and mold the basic outline to create a specific character outline and shape.
Enhance the character by adding such details as clothing, hair, unique morphing facial features, or textured skin, depending on the type of character. Use a flat 2D mesh map to color and detail the character via a paint program.
Add rigging to the video game character by using the Maya Joint Tool. The rigging will have to be compatible with the movements that the character will make, as well as with the outline of the character. Rigging allows a video game character to be able to walk and perform other actions.
Import the video game character from Maya into a program that will allow it to be used for a video game. World-building software is often used to create a video game.
