Reasons
̶0;Knights of the Old Republic̶1; will not work on netbooks that do not meet the minimum system specifications required to run the game. For proper operation, systems running ̶0;KotOR̶1; must have a 1 GHz processor with at least 128MB of RAM and a 32MB video card. For optimum performance, the game's publisher recommends a 1.6 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and a high-quality video card. As many netbooks don't include a CD-ROM drive, CD-ROM versions of ̶0;Knights̶1; will not work. Use a digital download version of ̶0;KotOR̶1; on netbooks without a CD-ROM drive; you'll need about 2.5GB of free space to install the game.
Patches
In some cases, faulty operation of ̶0;KotOR̶1; can be remedied by downloadable patches from the game's publisher, LucasArts. These patches address in-game glitches and visual issues, fix sound problems, remedy crashes, address memory leaks and add additional functionality to the game, such as the ability to display in varying resolutions. Drivers
̶0;KotOR̶1; was originally designed for Windows 98, Millennium, 2000 and XP platforms, as well as Mac OS X 10.3.4. Netbooks with newer operating systems ̵1; such as Windows 7 or Vista ̵1; may have trouble running the game. To remedy this compatibility issue, you may need updated drivers for your netbook's video card. On Windows netbooks, click on ̶0;Start̶1; or the Windows icon in the lower left-hand corner to access the search bar and type ̶0;devmgmt.msc̶1; in the text box to open the Device Manager. Expand the information for your display driver and select ̶0;Update̶1; to update the drivers. Alternatively, access the Control Panel, click ̶0;Programs̶1; and select ̶0;Use an older program with this version of Windows̶1; or ̶0;Run programs made for previous versions of Windows̶1; to open the Program Compatibility tool.
Scaling
If ̶0;Knights of the Old Republic̶1; works on your netbook but runs slowly, stutters, freezes or crashes, you may be able to remedy the situation by scaling back the game's graphics and features. Enter the game's setup menu, found under ̶0;Options,̶1; to reduce texture detail, turn off shadows or alter the game's resolution. Disable ancillary options, such as the ability to take screenshots, to conserve system resources.
