Instructions
Launch Steam, the application that allows you to manage and start "Counter-Strike," and log into the service. Click the View menu and select Servers. Select the Internet tab and click Change Filters. Select "Counter-Strike" from the Game drop-down menu and choose the area you live in from the Location menu. These settings will allow you to view only "Counter-Strike" servers that are in your geographical area when using the server browser. Servers that are near you usually have a lower latency, or ping, than those that are far away.
Shut down any running application before launching "Counter-Strike," especially bandwidth-consuming programs. For example, streaming media players or peer-to-peer download programs using your Internet connection while you're playing "Counter-Strike" will reduce the amount of bandwidth that is available to the game.
Upgrade your current Internet connection to a faster one. Call or email your current Internet service provider and other ISP's in your area to check if faster solutions are available to you.
