How to Lower Minecraft Graphics

The retro graphics in the sandbox computer game "Minecraft" may not look complex; as your "Minecraft" constructions grow in complexity, however, your graphics card may struggle to render them. Less-powerful graphics cards, such as those found on laptops, may require significant processing time to create new areas of the "Minecraft" world. The longer it takes to render the graphics in an in-game area, the less immersive the game becomes. To improve game performance in these cases, lower the graphics quality settings in "Minecraft."

Instructions

    • 1

Start "Minecraft." Enter your username and password, and click "Login."

    • 2

Click the "Options" button in the main menu. Click "Video Settings" to open the video configuration controls.

    • 3

Click the "Graphics" button to switch it from "Fancy" to "Fast." Click the "Performance" button until it reads "Power Saver." These settings reduce the framerate of the graphics in "Minecraft."

    • 4

Click the "Render Distance" button until it says "Tiny." This tells "Minecraft" to only display graphics that are very close to your character.

    • 5

Click the "Smooth Lighting" button to set it to "Off." This reduces the complexity of the in-game lighting.

    • 6

Click "Done" to apply the new, lower-quality graphics settings.
