How to Install a MOTD for ULX?

ULX is the name of a free add-on for "Garry's Mod," a computer video game. This add-on allows administrators of servers running "Garry's Mod" to conveniently access frequently-used commands. ULX also lets server administrators customize the message of the day, which is the text displayed by the server once a client connects to it. The MOTD can, for example, contain a list of the server's rules or advertisement. You can edit the MOTD in ULX by following a specific procedure.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a text editor such as, for example, Notepad. Type the message that you wish to use as an MOTD.

    • 2

Click on "File" and select "Save" in your text editor. Use the file browser to reach the main directory of your "Garry's Mod" installation. Typically, "Garry's Mod" is installed in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\steamusername\garrysmod\garrysmod," where "steamusername" is your Steam user name.

    • 3

Navigate to the "addons\ulx" folder within your "Garry's Mod" folder, type "ulx_motd.txt" in the "file name" field and click on the "Save" button.

    • 4

Open the "File" menu in Notepad again and select "Save." Navigate to the "data\ulx\" folder that is inside your main "Garry's Mod" folder, name the file "motd.txt" and click on "Save."
