In "Chris Sawyer's Locomotion," a simulation computer video game, players must build a railway company from scratch by selecting routes and buying locomotives. In the game, the performance index, a numerical value expressed as a percentage, allows you to know how efficient your company is. You can check your performance index and improve it by following a few guidelines.

      Launch "Chris Sawyer's Locomotion" by clicking its shortcut in the Start menu. Start a new game or load an existing one.

      Locate the performance index at the lower left of the screen, expressed as a percentage. Next to it, an arrow tells you whether the index is on an upward or downward trend.

      Raise your performance index by increasing your railway company's efficiency. To do so, focus on routes in which demand is high, and choose locomotives that are cheap to maintain.
