How to Fix a Failed Release Date Check in SecuROM

"Borderlands" is a computer action and adventure video game which, like numerous other games, is protected against piracy by the SecuROM technology. SecuROM, a technology developed by Sony DADC, requires you to activate your game during the installation process. If the activation fails, you might receive an error message warning you that the release date check has failed. You can fix that issue by performing a manual activation.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the SecuROM.com website in your browser, download the "Manual Release Date Check" tool and save it on your hard drive.

    • 2

Click on "Start" and select "Computer."

    • 3

Navigate to the folder where you saved the downloaded file, right-click on it and choose "Extract."

    • 4

Open the extracted directory and double-click on the "Borderland-ManualReleaseDateCheck.exe" file.

    • 5

Click on "Save" to save a manual activation file on your hard drive. Select the folder into which you wish to save the file and click on "Save" again.

    • 6

Open the "Borderlands Manual Release Date Check" section of the SecuROM.com website in your browser.

    • 7

Click on "Choose File" and use the file browser to locate the activation file on your hard drive. Click on "Open" and select "Submit." Your browser will automatically start downloading a license file, which you should save on your hard drive.

    • 8

Launch the "Borderlands" installer again. When you reach the activation screen, select "Manual Activation."

    • 9

Use the file browser to locate the license file on your hard drive and click on "Activate." You should now be able to finish the installation.
