How to Decipher Altitude in IL-2 Sturmovik

In "IL-2 Sturmovik," a flight simulation video game developed by Ubisoft based on the real life aircraft Ilyushin IL-2, you can fly planes realistically, meaning you monitor all of the onscreen gauges to keep yourself in the air. This includes the altitude gauge, an easy-to-read gauge that tells you how many feet you are in the air above sea level. Determining your advantage requires being able to read your altimeter.

Instructions

    • 1

Start a new game of IL-2 Sturmovik.

    • 2

Locate the altimeter on the right-hand side of the screen. Like a clock, the little hand refers to the first part of the number, while the big hand refers to the second part of the number. For example, if the little hand points toward the 8 and the larger hand points toward the 0, part of your altitude is 80.

    • 3

Locate a third, thinner hand that is a little larger than the little hand. Where this hand points determines the actual calculation of your altitude, representing thousands. For example, if the fatter hands point toward the 8 and 0 (as in the previous step), and the third hand is between the 1 and 2, the altitude is 18,000 feet. If it points between 2 and 3, the altitude is 28,000 feet.
