Mac OS X
"Age of Mythology" is available on multiple versions of the same operating system, such as Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and 10.4 Tiger. The "Out of Sync" error occurs if you are running Leopard and playing against an opponent running Tiger. You may also encounter the error if your opponent has a PowerPC machine and you have an Intel Mac.
Software Updates
Microsoft Game Studios released a new version of the game, "Age of Mythology" 2.0.1, which fixes known issues and bugs. The update is specifically for the U.S. retail "Age of Mythology" game, and not for foreign or generic versions. Upgrading to 2.0.1 resolves the networking issue between Macs, but friends playing online must all install the update to play together. In addition, you need to upgrade to version 2.0 beforehand by installing the Universal Binary application.
System Requirements
The system requirements for version 2.0 differ from 1.0 and 1.0.1. To run the game, you need a 500 MHz or faster machine, compared with 450 MHz for the earlier versions. At the minimum, you should have Mac OS X 10.3.9 and QuickTime 6.4. You also need at least 256MB of RAM, 1GB of available storage space, a 32 MB video card and an 8x CD-ROM drive. To play the game online in multiplayer mode, you need a 56 Kbps modem or LAN connection.
Saving and Backing Up
To safeguard your content, MacSoft advises saving important games and making backups before you use the updater. This ensures that your game is not lost or corrupted during the updating process. To do this, copy the "Save Game" folder to your desktop and then run the updater. Afterward, transfer the files to the "Game Data" folder in the Universal Binary application. This is where all third-party scenarios and saved games are located.
