What Is a Bugged Item in Diablo 2?

"Diablo 2" continues to be a revered computer adventure game. One of the most fascinating aspects of the game is the seemingly endless assortment of rare and unique items that you can discover along your journey. With so much sophistication in game play, unexpected errors and glitches with items crop up on occasion. When these glitches work to your advantage, they're known as bugged items.
  1. Bugged Items

    • The designers of "Diablo 2"' set out to construct a game with a level playing field, where each character class had equal opportunities for success. Weapons, armor and items are therefore never so powerful as to make the game too easy. In rare instances, however, unforeseen quirks in the programming allow you to generate items of awe-inspiring power. For example, the Horadric Cube and the Horadric Malus both allow you to manipulate items in particular ways. "Diablo 2's" programmers couldn't foresee all of the uses to which gamers would put these tools.

    Ethereal Armor

    • The Horadric Cube is an item that you acquire in Act 2 of "Diablo 2," allowing you to transmute specific items, weapons and armor. Placing a weapon or piece of armor into the cube along with three jewels generates a socketed item. Ethereal armors can't be repaired and therefore have a limited period of use. In an older version of "Diablo 2," socketing an ethereal armor actually removed its ethereal properties. When programmers attempted to fix this bug, they inadvertently caused the Horadric Cube to reapply the defensive bonus applied to ethereal items.

    Marrowwalk Boneweave Boots

    • The so-called Marrowwalk exploit works only for Necromancer characters. First, the character must gain enough experience points to reach level 66. Also, the character's strength must total at least 118, with or without items. Avoid allocating any skill points to the Bone Prison ability. If the ability isn't at zero, the bug won't work. Once the character has attained level 66, equip a pair of Marrowwalk Boneweave boots. Bone Prison will instantly receive 33 skill points, a massive boost. With newer patches to the game, this bug may no longer work, however.

    Ethics

    • The community of "Diablo 2" players is split on the subject of whether using bugged items constitutes fair game play. Many players compare the use of bugged items to cheating. Others argue that until Blizzard releases a patch to correct a specific glitch, then the glitch is fair game. If you're playing a multiplayer game, learn how your party members feel about exploiting bugs within the game.
