Starscape System Requirements

You have just discovered you are the only remaining pilot of the space station Aegis. Most of your crew is missing and your station's weapons systems are broken. Moonpod's Starscape sends you hurtling through space on a mission to acquire alien technology to rebuild your ship's defenses, harvest valuable minerals and assemble a new fighter crew. However, if you're having trouble getting the game started you may not be meeting the minimum system requirements.
  1. Operating System and Processor

    • Starscape can only be played on the Windows operating system. Moonpod, the game developer, recommends you use Windows 98, XP or Vista, though any version of Windows later than 98 should work. The processor needed to properly run the game is the equivalent to Intel Pentium II 300 MHz or higher. Most people already have a more advanced processor because the Intel Pentium II 300 MHz processor was designed for older operating systems such as Windows 95.

    Memory and Space

    • If you plan to purchase and play Starscape through Steam, an online gaming platform with access to Starscape, you should have at least 128Mb of free system memory and 100Mb of hard disk space on your computer. However, if you purchase the game through Moonpod you need at least 110Mb of hard disk space. You can check your disk space by clicking "Start" and then "Computer." When you click the hard disk you want to check you will see how much space is left in the "Details" panel.

    Graphics Requirements

    • To play Starscape on Steam you need DirectX 8 or higher. If you're planning on purchasing the game from Moonpod you only need DirectX 5 or higher. You can check the version of DirectX you have through the Microsoft DirectX Diagnostic Tool: click "Start" and then "Run." Type in "dxdiag" and then click "OK." On the System tab you will see the version of DirectX you are running. If Windows cannot find the diagnostic tool, you are running Directx 5 or lower. If this is the case you can download the newest version from Microsoft. You also need a hardware accelerator with 16 meg of onboard memory or better to play Starscape from Moonpod and a hardware 3D graphics accelerator with 32Mb or more of onboard memory if playing the game through Steam.

    Sound Requirements

    • In order for Starscape's sound to work properly, all you need is any DirectSound compatible sound card. Most computers have the ability to play sound, but to check for a sound card you can log in as the administrator of your computer if necessary, click "Start" and then "Control Panel," "System and Maintenance" and "Device Manager." Click the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" tab to expand it. Here you will see your sound card listed. If it is not listed, your computer may have build in sound or you may need to reinstall your sound card.
