Background
Cygnus Knights are an order of characters who perform quests and work with Empress Cygnus and her allies to defend Maple World against the Black Mage. Nexon released the update for Cygnus Knights in 2010, letting players with level 20 characters or higher convert characters to a Cygnus Knight or create new characters in the order. Cygnus Knights have five classes that roughly correspond to the five Explorer classes: thief, pirate, warrior, magician and bowman. These characters call the continent of Ereve their home, and can travel their from Orbis or Victoria Island to see the empress or her adviser Neinhart, who has many quests. You will also find the instructors for each of the Cygnus classes in Ereve.
Skills
According to Nexon, while Cygnus Knights retain the general abilities of their corresponding Explorer classes, the characters are immediately stronger. This results from new abilities, many of which are magic-based, that make the character stronger or faster. For example, Corkscrew Blow is a new skill for the pirate-like Thunder Breakers that lets them knock back boss monsters. Blaze Wizards, who generally attack with the fire element, can use the Elemental Reset skill to turn their attacks neutral to damage immune monsters. The various Cygnus classes have several new skills, in addition to the basic Explorer skills.
Companions
Another example of a new ability is the magical companion that each class gains. These sprites stay close to the character, bobbing around in air. The name and color of the sprite varies by character class and each companion has a slightly different design. Summoning uses a skill not available to Explorer characters. For example, Nights Walkers, the counterpart to thieves, can summon a purple companion called Darkness that helps them fight while Dawn Warriors have access to a yellow companion called Soul that increases defense and attacks. Flame is the Blaze Wizard's red sprite.
Mounts
Like the newly created Aran character type, Cygnus Knights can use mounts. However, you must play your character to level 50 before you qualify for the quest where you earn an egg. The egg hatches after your character reaches level 51, at which point you can return to Ereve and continue the quest. You then travel to the Aquarium below Orbis Tower where you must pay 10 million mesos for the appropriate saddle and gear. Return to Ereve to finish the quest. After finishing the quest you can summon and ride a furry, goat-like mount that increases your ability to jump and movement speed.
