Gameplay
In both games in "MechWarrior Gold," you control large mech robots armed with missiles and energy weapons. You are assigned missions that range from attacking enemy bases or protecting an object against waves of enemy mechs and vehicles. In total, "MechWarrior Gold" features over 40 missions. Your mech also has an energy meter. You can have parts of your mech blown away, and if the meter reaches zero, your mech will explode and you have to start the level over.
Story
In "MechWarrior 3," you are Connor Sinclair and have the rank of Lance Commander. Your job is to attack the Smoke Jaguar, a hostile enemy clan on the planet Tranquil. The "Pirate's Moon" expansion adds to the story, as you are tasked with protecting the planet Vale against the New Belt Pirates. This game also has pirate missions where you control one of the New Belt Pirate members. Both stories and campaigns are collected in "MecoWarrior 3: Gold Edition."
Customization
"MechWarrior 3" introduced a new level of mech customization to the MechWarrior games. Before each mission you can outfit your mech with different weapons, armor, heatsink, engine and equipment, all of which you purchase using funds earned in previous missions. You unlock additional customizable pieces as you progress throughout the story. In "MechWarrior 3: Gold Edition," a total of 20 different mechs and 40 weapons are available for you to use.
System Requirements
"MechWarrior 3" and its subsequent releases featured a graphics engine new to games at the time. As such, gamers needed to have up-to-date computers to run the game. The developers' minimum requirements suggested using Windows 95/98 with a P166 MHz processor, 32 MB of RAM, CD-ROM drive, a 16-bit 2 MB video card, 240 MB of available hard drive space for installation, and a DirectX compatible sound card. By today's standards, most computer easily exceed these requirements.
