How to Determine the Heap Size in CSS

"Counter-Strike: Source" (CSS) is a remake of "Counter-Strike," Valve's 2000 first-person shooter computer game. CSS updated the game to the Source engine that Valve made for "Half-Life 2." Gaming systems have advanced significantly since CSS came out in 2004, and players now seek new ways to improve the game's performance. In particular, they seek to increase the game's FPS rate, or the number of frames that it renders each second. One way is the set the game's heap size, which is the amount of memory reserved for the program.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch Steam, Valve's gaming platform.

    • 2

      Right-click the "Counter-Strike: Source" icon.

    • 3

Select "Properties." This opens the "Counter-Strike: Source - Properties" window.

    • 4

Click "Set launch options." This opens the "Launch Options - Counter-Strike: Source" window, which has a command-line interface.

    • 5

Type "-heapsize 1048576" into the window, replacing "1048576" with the heap size you want, measured in kilobytes.
