How to Connect GMod to Create a Server

"Garry's Mod," or GMOD, is a game that allows players to manipulate objects used in Source games, such as "Half Life 2," "Counterstrike Source" and "Team Fortress 2." The game does not have a story or goals, but instead provides a sandbox for players to play in. The game includes a multiplayer feature, enabling multiple players to build together. Users can create their own multiplayer server from the game's main menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to whatsmyip.org and write down your IP address. You will need this for others to connect to your server.

    • 2

      Open "Garry's Mod."

    • 3

Click "Options," then "Keyboard" and then "Advanced." Check "Enable developer console." Anyone who wants to connect to the server will need to do this as well.

    • 4

Click "Start New Game." Select a map and then click "Start Multiplayer."

    • 5

Press the "~" key to bring up the developer's console. Type "sv_lan 0" then press "Enter." Then type "heartbeat" and press "Enter." These two commands will connect your server to Steam.

    • 6

Invite a player to your game by pressing "Shift+Tab" to bring up Steam. Select them from your friends list, right-click on their name and select "invite to game." Players can also join by opening the developer console and typing "connect" and your IP address.
