Basic Description
The bandit is a close-combat type of thief, rather than the ranged assassin character. Bandits rely on strength to inflict damage to monsters. Because of their short range, they must be close to enemies to attack. Brawlers are one of the pirate character types in "MapleStory." Like bandits, they are melee characters that fight in close quarters and quickly. Brawlers also have a high amount of strength.
Equipment
Bandits primarily rely on daggers, a one-handed weapon. This leaves the other hand free to hold a shield. However, bandits typically require smaller, specialized shields, unlike those that warriors and magicians may use. Bandits wear the same armor as other thieves and it can be described as a mix of ninja, Oriental and street style. After level 10, brawlers rely on knuckles, a stylized version of the real-world brass knuckles. These two-handed weapons prevent brawlers from carrying shields. Brawlers wear ocean- and pirate-themed armor that becomes more extravagant as they gain levels.
Skills
Brawlers and bandits have similar skills that temporarily boost the effectiveness of their weapons -- knuckles and daggers, respectively. Brawlers have the advantage of several skills that target multiple enemies at once well before other classes can attack multiple monsters; the backspin blow and corkscrew blow are examples of these types of skills. Brawlers also have skills to permanently raise health points (HP), and avoid monsters by wearing a barrel disguise. Bandit skills range from dagger mastery, a passive skill that allows the character to inflict more damage, to the speed-increasing skill known as "Haste" to "Savage Blow," which allows a succession of six dagger blows to the enemy. Bandits also have the unique skill "Steal." This is a skill that allows the character to steal items from an enemy.
Considerations
Although both bandits and brawlers are melee characters, the skills of the brawler are actually quite long-ranged. Bandits do not have a long-ranged attack until the fourth job advancement. Both types are good at mobbing, or attacking multiple targets at once; however, bandits also excel as single-target fighting. Because brawlers must fight close to enemies and have no skills to protect them from monsters that can drain energy or health, these characters will use more health potions than bandits.
