How to Add a Character Skin to a Texture Pack on Minecraft

The independently-published adventure title "Minecraft" not only allows you a large amount of freedom inside its world, but also gives you the ability to customize skins and textures by changing the game files. If you enjoy using a certain texture pack, you can also download and add a different character skin to it. Doing so will replace the original character skin in the game with the one that you added to the texture pack.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to a "Minecraft" website -- such as The Skindex or Planet Minecraft -- and click on the skin that you wish to download. Save this character skin to your Windows desktop so you can easily find it later.

    • 2

Start "Minecraft" and then select "Mod & Texture Packs" from the main menu.

    • 3

Click "Open Texture Pack Folder"; the "texturepacks" folder on your hard drive will automatically open. All your texture packs are inside this folder. Close "Minecraft" but keep the "texturepacks" folder open.

    • 4

Double-click the texture pack to which you wish to add a character skin. Windows has built-in support for ZIP files, so it will open like a normal folder would.

    • 5

Double-click the "Mob" folder and you will see a list of PNG files; these are the image files that contain the textures for characters and enemies.

    • 6

Right-click on the character skin that you downloaded to your desktop and select "Properties." Change the name of the file to "Char.png" in the box at the top of the properties menu under the "General" tab.

    • 7

Click "OK" and then right-click on the file again. Select "Copy" from the menu. Click anywhere inside the "Mob" folder and select "Paste." Your character skin is added to the texture pack you selected.

    • 8

Start "Minecraft" again and then select "Mods & Texture Packs" from the main menu. Click on the name of the texture pack to which you added the character skin and click "Done."

    • 9

Start the game and you will notice that your character has the skin that you added to the texture pack. You can verify this by pressing "I" on your keyboard to open your character's inventory. Your character will be shown and you will be able to see the new skin.
