The FSX Joystick Throttle Is Not Working

"Microsoft Flight Simulator X," also called "FSX," is the tenth and final game in the "Microsoft Flight Simulator" series, released in 2006 for Windows PCs. Like other games in the series, it has enjoyed a dedicated following of players who are technically knowledgeable and typically play the game with specialized hardware, usually flight sticks or joysticks. Occasionally, one of these peripherals won't work properly with "Flight Simulator X."
  1. Option Toggle

    • Open the controller settings menu in "Flight Simulator X," then go to "Advanced." Slide the null zone modifier all the way over to 0% and the sensitivity all the way to 100%. For some joysticks, this should allow for the maximum amount of control over your throttle.

    Incompatible Hardware

    • Some hardware is either too old or too new to function properly with "Flight Simulator X." This is easier to rectify with newer joysticks, as the "FSX" fan community routinely creates unofficial patches for newer hardware that didn't exist when the game was originally released. For older hardware, this is less likely.

    Incompatible Firmware

    • One way to troubleshoot problems is usually to make sure your game is patched and updated, in addition to having the latest drivers for your joystick hardware. Patching accomplishes two major things: adding additional functionality based on user feedback, and fixing bugs, which are unintended effects in a program's code that may be undesirable.

    Hardware Malfunction

    • The least likely scenario is that the joystick's throttle may not work at all, which usually can be tested in hardware-neutral diagnostic software, such as Windows' own built-in joystick applet. If this is the case, replacing the joystick hardware is your only option.
