How to Convert GM6 to GM7

The Game Marker series has had many iterations in its long history, with major updates and features typically coming in each update of the software. Game Maker 6 included many unique features when it was released, but its successor, Game Maker 7, included massive updates that even changed the way maps and games are loaded and played with the software. If you have a map or game made in Game Maker 6, you need to update and convert the file to play the game in the seventh version of the software.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the game created with Game Maker 6 in Game Maker 7. Because of the new formats, you will be able to load the game, but you will not be able to edit or play the created the game with the new software.

    • 2

Click "Save as" from the "File" menu on the top toolbar. A standard Windows Explorer window will appear.

    • 3

Click the "Save as file type" drop-down at the bottom of the window. A list of options will expand.

    • 4

Click ".gmk" from the list of option and "OK" at the bottom-right corner of the window to save the file in a converted format for Game Maker 7. You will then be able to edit and play the game like you would any other game created with the seventh version of the software.
