How to Make a Cave Home in Minecraft

In the highly pixelated world of "Minecraft," building a home is the key not only to surviving through the night but also to enjoying the game. By digging, crafting and building in caves, you can create large and elaborate bases that allow you to deal with any outside threats that come at night. The way in which you make such a cave home is mostly a matter of preference, but knowing the basics of creating entrances and lighting will ensure that you are safe inside it.

  Locate a naturally occurring cave in your "Minecraft" world. Pressing the "W," "A," "S" and "D" keys to move around, look for hills with indents in them; these generally indicate a cave.

  Ensure that you have enough blocks in your inventory to get back out of any hole that you fall into. Outside of your cave, hold down the left mouse button while you are looking at a block of dirt to destroy the dirt and move the block into your inventory. You will then be able to place the block somewhere else by clicking the right mouse button.

  Create torches. To create a torch, first get two blocks of wooden planks, which you can make out of four blocks of regular wood, and then combine the two planks to make sticks in your inventory menu. Next, put one stick and one piece of coal or charcoal together to make a torch through your inventory menu.

  Place the torches strategically around your cave home with the right mouse button when you have a torch selected in your quick bar. You need the entire area to be well-lit because creatures can spawn in any area of darkness or shadow.

  Place blocks of material gathered from inside or outside of your cave to seal the entrances; stack the blocks until the only open areas are two spaces high by one space wide. You will be placing a door in each of these areas.

  Click on the crafting table in your quick bar and right-click on where you want to deploy it. Place six wooden planks on the table. Arrange them three spaces high by two spaces wide. You will then see the option to craft a door. Click on it and the door will be added to your inventory. Repeat this process until you have two or three doors.

  Click the right mouse button to place a door at each entrance to your home. You never want just one doorway out of your home because you could get trapped if a creature is pressed up against your only door. This is much less likely to occur if you have more than one door.

  Continue to excavate and build your cave to your liking. Continue adding torches to keep the place lit, and be wary of falling into a deeper cave with no way to get out of it.
