How Can You Update Your Game of The Sims 3?

"The Sims 3" lets players create and live their own virtual lives. Players can create a single person or an entire family, then guide them through every step of their life from birth to death. Some versions of "The SIms 3" have compatibility issues when new expansion packs are installed. After some expansion packs are installed, an error message appears stating that the game can be updated by downloading a patch file from Electronic Arts' website or by re-installing the game and updating it through Electronic Arts' Origin digital download system.

Super Patcher

  Download the Super Patcher from the Electronic Art's website (see Resources).

  Right-click the downloaded executable file and select "Run as Administrator."

  Follow the installer's prompts to complete the installation.

  Launch the game to download any additional updates.
Origin

  Back up your saved "The Sims 3" games by clicking the "Start" icon on the Windows taskbar, then clicking "Documents" and "Electronic Arts." Copy "The Sims 3" folder to your desktop.

  Uninstall "The Sims 3" by selecting "Start," "Control Panel" and then "Uninstall a program." Uninstall any installed expansion packs as well.

  Download the Origin software from origin.com/download. Install the software and run it to update to the latest version.

  Reinstall "The Sims 3" but not install any expansion packs at this point.

  Open Origin by right-clicking the desktop shortcut and selecting "Run as Administrator."

  Open "The Sims 3" launcher by right-clicking the desktop shortcut and selecting "Run as Administrator." The game begins updating automatically. The patcher notifies you when the update is finished.

  Re-install any expansion packs in the following order: "World Adventures," "High-End: Loft Stuff," "Ambitions," "Fast Lane Stuff," "Late Night," "Outdoor Living Stuff," "Generations" and "Town Life Stuff."
