How to Put Characters & Stages on Mugen

"M.U.G.E.N." is a 2D fighting game and fighting-game builder released for the Windows operating systems. The game allows you to import characters and stages you have created or downloaded from the Internet directly into the game. Importing a character or stage into M.U.G.E.N." requires only that you place the character or stage's directory in the proper location and add the character or stage to the list of characters and stages. Once this is done, the character or stage can be used in the game as if it came preinstalled.

Instructions

  1. Installing a Character

    • 1

Double-click the "chars" folder that was created when you installed "M.U.G.E.N." onto your computer and drag the folder that contains all of the new character's files into the "Chars" folder. Make sure that the folder itself has the same name as the ".def" file in the folder. For example, if the character's folder is named "Bob," the .def folder must be titled "Bob.def."

    • 2

Double-click the "data" folder that was created when you installed "M.U.G.E.N." onto your computer, followed by the "system.def" folder. "System.def" opens in Notepad.

    • 3

Locate the section of text that reads "[Characters]." Delete any text in between "[Characters]" and "kfm, stages/kfm.def."

    • 4

Type the name of the character that you want to add beneath the line that reads "kfm, stages/kfm.def." The name that you enter here is the same name as the folder you added in Step 1. For the example, to add the character "Bob," type "Bob."

    • 5

Click the "File" menu and select the "Save" option to save the "system.def" file. When you launch "M.U.G.E.N.," the new character will be playable.

    Install a Stage

    • 6

Double-click the "stages" folder that was created when you installed "M.U.G.E.N." onto your computer and drag the ".def" and ".sff" files for your stage into the folder. For example, if the stage is named "island," place the "island.def" and "island.sff" files into the "stages" folder.

    • 7

Double-click the "data" folder that was created when you installed "M.U.G.E.N." onto your computer, followed by the "system.def" folder. "System.def" opens in Notepad.

Locate the section of text that reads "[Characters]." Place a comma next to the name of the character that you want to assign the stage to and type "stages/" followed by the name of the stage's ".def" file.
