How to Make a Stairwell in Minecraft

Start a game. If you begin a new game, a new world with resources is generated. Run toward a tree and start mining the wood. Gather at least four pieces of wood. Open the Crafting menu; it has a 4-by-4 grid to create objects. Insert the wood blocks into one slot in the crafting boxes to turn them into wooden planks.

Click the wooden planks and insert one into each of the four crafting boxes to create a toolbox. Insert wooden planks in the upper left and lower left crafting boxes to create sticks. Close the Crafting menu and drop the toolbox on the map.

Click on the toolbox to open the Tool Crafting menu; it has a 9-by-9 grid to create tools. Place wooden sticks in the lower center and middle boxes, and place wooden planks in each of the three boxes in the upper row to create a pick. Add this tool to your list of items in use. It helps you mine materials faster.

Find some trees and mine more wood. For each stair you build, you need at least enough wood to create six wooden planks. Create these wooden planks using the mined wood in the Crafting menu.

Open the toolbox. Insert wooden planks in the upper left, middle left, middle and all three lower boxes (the pattern resembles stairs) to create a staircase block. Create as many staircase blocks as you need or can build from the materials available. Close the toolbox.

Drop the staircase blocks onto the ground. Use other materials such as dirt or wooden planks to build support under each layer of stairs. Climb up and continue building the staircase as high as you wish.
