Weapon
In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," it's important to try each of the available sniper rifles to determine which you find easiest to use. The Barrett .50cal, for example, may be the most intriguing based on its deadliness in "Modern Warfare 2," but you might struggle with the rifle's extreme recoil. Test each rifle and also review each firearm's guidelines to compare range, accuracy, damage and rate of fire. The right weapon in your hands makes your sniper character even more deadly.
Perks
As you advance through the point levels in the game's multiplayer mode, you unlock more perks for your character. A vitally important perk for any sniper is Ninja, which allows you to move in a stealth-like manner so that you're undetected on an enemy's heartbeat sensor. Without this perk, an opponent can easily identify you on the map, track you down and kill you. The Cold Blooded perk makes you invisible to unmanned aerial vehicles and thermal imaging.
Sidearm
Because your sniper rifle won't serve you well if you encounter a couple opponents in close quarters, it's important that you choose your sidearm carefully. In maps with many buildings and rooms, a lethal pistol such as the Desert Eagle or .44 Magnum are ideal because of their stopping power. In more open maps, a pistol with greater accuracy, such as the M9, is suitable.
Scope
Amateur gamers often peek through the scope of their rifle, and then lower the scope to get a broad image of the battlefield. Veteran snipers look through their scope most of the time to avoid missing a minute detail. When you switch from scope to no scope, you temporarily miss what's in front of you, which can be deadly. When you find a spot to hide, keep your scope up and sweep the area in front of you in a slow, methodical pattern.
