Basic Requirements
These requirements are the system capabilities that you must meet to run Dragon Age II at all; there is no leeway with these. Your operating system must be Windows 7, Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 or Windows XP with Service Pack 3 -- although Windows 7 and Vista are preferred. If you purchase the disc-based version, you'll need a DVD drive. Whether you get the DVD version or purchase a digital download, you'll need at least 7 gigabytes (GB) of free hard disk space. The game also requires a DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card, which most modern computers should have.
Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements are the hardware components you need to play the game normally. Sometimes you can get away with hardware that falls a little short, but the visuals suffer and the game may even crash. If you have an Intel processor, you need at least an Intel Core 2 Duo that runs at 1.8 gigahertz (GHz). If you have an AMD processor, you'll need a 1.8GHz Athlon 64 X2 or better. You'll also need at least 1.5GB of random access memory (RAM) for Windows 7 or Vista, but you only need 1GB if you're running Windows XP. If you have an NVIDIA video card, you'll need to use at least the Geforce 7900 GS with 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM. The minimum required ATI card is the Radeon HD 2600 Pro with 256MB of RAM.
Recommended Requirements
If your computer meets the recommended requirements, you'll enjoy a better gaming experience with improved graphics and fewer issues like frame rate drops and extended load times. For an Intel processor, you should have at least an Intel Core 2 Quad at 2.4GHz, or for an AMD processor, you should use at least the Phenom II X3 triple-core, running at 2.8GHz. For Windows 7 or Vista, you ought to have no less than 4GB of RAM, and for XP you need at least 2GB. If you use an NVIDIA card, you should use at least the NVIDIA 8800 GTS with no less than 512MB of RAM. For ATI, you should use the ATI 3850 or higher, also with 512MB of RAM or better.
DirectX 11
If you can play the game with the DirectX 11 option enabled in the video settings, this will boost the visuals throughout the game. This includes improved lighting and shadows, as well as enhanced details on most of the objects in the game. For an NVIDIA card, you'll need at least the NVIDIA 460 to enable DirectX 11, and for ATI card you'll need the ATI 5850 or better. BioWare has also released a high-resolution texture pack, which is only available with DirectX 11 enabled; if you want to give that a try, you'll need at least 1GB of video RAM.
