How to Micro Using Hotkeys

Micro, for computer games such as "Starcraft 2," refers to the control of your individual units. This can include moving weak units out of harm's way, proper positioning of ranged and melee units or using units to take advantage of map features. Hotkeys are keyboard shortcuts that allow you to use a unit's special ability or select a group of units quickly without having to use the mouse. Using hotkeys can save time and increase your actions per minute.

Instructions

  Load "Starcraft II" or another chosen real time strategy game and begin playing.

  Press "Ctrl" plus a number to set your unit production facilities to that number hotkey.

  Build units and set those units to a hotkey by selecting all of the units and pressing "Ctrl" plus the number you want hotkeyed.

  While in combat, press the hotkey for your unit groups to control those groups more effectively, using special abilities and maneuvering the groups. Press the hotkey for your ranged units, if you have any, and use them to focus fire down weakened enemy units.

  Press your production-building hotkeys, while in combat, to continue producing reinforcements while fighting the enemy.
