How to Get the Blade of the East in Fallout: New Vegas

In "Fallout: New Vegas," the Sword of The East is the unique melee weapon of Caesar's second in command, Legate Lanius. Although powerful, the Blade of the East can be difficult to obtain. You can get it by either besting Lanius in combat or by joining Caesar's Legion and stealing it from him.

Instructions

Fight the Legion

  Get your Strength up to at least 7. Your Strength must be 7 or higher to wield the Blade of the East.

  Defeat Legate Lanius in combat. Your chance to fight Lanius is near the end of the game during the battle for Hoover Dam. Keep in mind that this is one of the most difficult battles in the game, as Lanius has high defense and can use the Blade of the East to cut you down very quickly.

  Loot Legate Lanius' corpse. You will find the Blade of the East, a powerful melee weapon similar to the Bumper Sword.
Join the Legion

  Get your Strength up to at least 7. Your Strength must be 7 or higher to wield the Blade of the East.

  Join Caesar's Legion. You can side with Caesar by visiting Fortification Hill when invited. Follow Caesar's instructions to get on the gang's good side.
- 6
  Pickpocket Legate Lanius when you meet him during the Caesar's Legion quest line. You will need a high Sneak skill to pull this off, as Lanius is a high-level character with a high Perception score. The Blade of the East can be found in his inventory.
