How to Import 3D Objects Into FSX

For over 25 years, flight enthusiasts have flown using only their PC and the occasional joystick. "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" continues the legacy with enhanced graphics, new planes and several multi-player options -- including air traffic controller. The package's deluxe version includes helicopters, sailplanes, ultralights and aerobatic planes. Like its predecessors, "Flight Simulator X" does not include military planes. Fortunately, Simviation offers many free 3D models, including fighter jets, that are compatible with FSX.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a new folder in your download directory. Name the folder "FSDownloads." Extract your zipped plane file into this directory.

    • 2

Open the extracted folder. Click the subfolder with an airplane name. Press "Ctrl-C" to copy the folder.

    • 3

Navigate to the "Flight Simulator X" plane directory. The default location is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\airplanes."

    • 4

Press "Ctrl-V" and paste your folder into the "Flight Simulator X" directory.

    • 5

Load "Flight Simulator X" and fly your new fighter jet.
