How to Fix Textures in FSX

"FSX" stands for "Microsoft Flight Simulator X," and is a 2006 simulation game for personal computers. The game allows you to take to the skies in various aircraft. The popularity of the game has led fans to release many free add-ons and extras for it on-line. While these can enhance the experience of players, it can also lead to a few problems. One issue is textures in the game. Sometimes the textures disappear from the aircraft and scenery, which can make the game become unplayable. A free fix is available on-line for this problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the FlightSimLabs website (see Resources) and download the free texture fix utility.

    • 2

Right click on the downloaded file and select "Extract All." Specify a destination (the folder where your copy of "FSX" is installed, for example) and click "Extract."

    • 3

Navigate to the folder where your copy of "FSX" is installed, and make a backup of the "FSX.Cfg" file. The texture fix program performs this action automatically, but it is always good to have an extra backup.

    • 4

Double click the "FSL_TextureFix_v1.0.exe" file to launch the program. The program will automatically detect the folder where your copy of "FSX" is installed.

    • 5

Click "Apply Changes!" at the bottom of the program screen to apply the texture fix to your copy of the game. Click "Yes" when asked if you want to continue, and then click "Exit."

    • 6

Start your copy of "FSX," and you will find that the disappearing texture problem will be fixed.
