How to Chat on Whyville

Like other social media games, Whyville allows players to chat with each other in-game. To enable full chatting privileges for your Whyville account, you'll need to test for a Chat License, obtain a Permission Slip if necessary and spend time in Whyville for three days in a row.

Instructions

  Log into b.whyville.net with your user account, or create a new account using the "New to Whyville" section.

  Obtain a Permission Slip, if necessary---these are required only for underage players. Point your browser to b.whyville.net/smmk/certs/permission, click the "here" link, and follow the instructions on the slip.

  Obtain a Chat License. Once you've created a Whyville account, you can take the qualifying test for the License. Do some simple studying for the test using the information at b.whyville.net/smmk/whyHouse/chat, then point your browser to b.whyville.net/smmk/newbieIsland/chatTest and follow the onscreen instructions.

  Chat using the Chat box in the game once you've obtained a License. Note that for three days after creating your Whyville account, your chat privileges will be lightly restricted, and you will sometimes be asked to rewrite or abandon messages you enter. Once you've logged some time in Whyville, these restrictions will disappear.
