How to Cast a Fire Spell to Start a Wood Fireplace in Oblivion

In "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion," there are many wood fireplaces that provide light and vision for players. Most of these fireplaces are already lit, but there is one specific fireplace that is not. This fireplace is located in a log cabin just to the right of the east gate entrance in Bruma that players can purchase as a home of their own. The house is in a great location, especially for thieves, but the house is far too dark inside. The house does have a fireplace, but the fireplace completely lacks wood. Many players have complained about this and have questioned whether or not there is a way to ignite it with a fire spell. The good news is that it is possible to ignite the fireplace using a fire spell by installing player-made modifications that add wood to the fireplace.

Instructions

    • 1

Copy the link from the Source 1 in the References section and load the page in a new tab or window. Select the second icon near the middle of the page that has "001" on it and says "Files" when you hover over it with your cursor.

    • 2

Click the download link that says "My Bruma Fireplace." An advertisement will play in the popup window. Wait for it to end to gain access to the download. Wait for about 30 seconds, and the download will begin.

    • 3

Your computer requires free archive managing software to open this archive. If you already have archiving software (most computers come with it), skip this step. Popular programs that will work for this are PeaZip and WinRAR. Download and follow the instructional prompts to install the program of your choice.

    • 4

Right-click the file that you downloaded earlier called "My_Bruma_Fireplace-2921.rar." Select "Extract Here" from the menu that appears.

    • 5

Two files will appear underneath the original file. One of the files is the actual mod file and one is a text file with information about the mod in it. Double-click the text file and read through the information.

    • 6

Right click the file called "OL_MyBrumaFireplace-2921.rar." Select "copy" from the menu that appears.

    • 7

Open the folder where you have "Oblivion" installed. Within that folder, there is a folder called "Data." Open this folder and press "Ctrl-V" to paste the file you copied earlier into the folder. Check to see that it is there.

    • 8

Run "Oblivion." Click the button that says "Data Files" on the intro screen. Click the little box next to the "My Bruma Fireplace" mod. Make sure there is a tick in the box. Close the game.

    • 9

Open the game again. Go to your house in Bruma. There should be wood in the fireplace. Cast your fire spell toward the wood. The wood will catch fire, creating more light in your once-dark home.
