Cats
The Brown Kitty is a basic pet, one of the first Nexon ever released, and has no special abilities. You can recognize it by its light brown fur with darker stripes. Black Kitties are a much darker version of their brown cousins. Although not a house cat, the White Tiger is a pet that requires little food and responds to commands such as "sit," "jump" "rest" and "poop." The latter results in an animation of your tiger sitting on a toilet while reading a newspaper. Orange tigers possess a number of skills and 2010 saw the release of the Baby Tiger, which captured players' hearts with its adorable design and tears. Cloud leopards are obedient, rare pets. These spotted cats have a leaner frame than domestic cat pets.
Dogs
Brown puppies are also an original pet, with long, floppy ears that nearly reach the ground. Browne puppies require more food than kitties. Dog lovers can also purchase the intelligent Husky pet from the cash shop. These pets feature the classic black and white markings. A similar pet is the Blue Husky, whose fur is tinted blue instead of black.
Farm Animals
If you have a soft spot for farm animals, you can find a variety of them in MapleStory. For example, the White Duck has skills such as crying and also transforms into a swan boat. Porcupines make unusual but adorable pets in this game and you can obtain one by purchasing a trading card booster pack with the porcupine code. The Farm Pig is available only in TaiwanMS as of the time of publication. The pet features the ability to turn into a ribbon pig. Turkeys are rare pets that Nexon gave as prizes for Thanksgiving events. These pets are quite disobedient. Other available farm animals include the Black and Golden pigs, Black, White and Pink bunnies and the Skunk.
Monsters
Some pets take after monsters in the Maple word. These include Mini Kargo, which is a cute version of the dinosaur-like monster in the dungeon. The Robot, Mini Yeti and Jr. Balrog all take after their namesakes as well. The Penguin pet is similar to penguin monsters like Pepes in Orbis Tower.
Transforming Pets
You can purchase a variety of dragon and dragon-like pets in MapleStory. The Dragon Egg hatches into a Baby Dragon as it levels. If you use special items on this dragon, it can morph into a Black, Red, Green or Blue Dragon. Similar to the dragons, you can purchase a Robo Egg, which will eventually evolve into a floating, cat-like robot. From here, you can transform your pet into a high-tech Red, Green, Blue, Gold or Gorilla Robo.
Misc
Several reindeer pets exist. Rudolph has a red nose and pulls a sleigh, just like in the classic myth. Some versions of MS include Dasher, which is similar to Rudolph without the red nose. Crystal Rudolph is a crystallized version of the reindeer; he responds to a different set of commands as the original. Other popular pets include Kino, a small orange mushroom, Snail, which you can acquire for free from Mar the Fairy, and the Jr. Reaper, a skeletal pet in a cloak. Sun Wu Kong is a monkey based on Chinese mythology that many players have adopted; these pets are decorated with gold accessories.
