Obtain a shovel or pickaxe. If you don't have one, use your bare hands. Attack the ground to dig a hole. Dig straight down until the hole is at least five blocks deep. This is the beginning of your pit trap.
Widen the hole to be at least a three-by-three grid. The larger it is, the more chickens you'll catch.
Exit the hole and wait for chickens to fall into it. Over time, dozens can be captured.
Jump into the hole and take the eggs. If you don't need them immediately, throw them at the ground. There is a 25-percent chance of a new chicken hatching, meaning you'll get even more eggs.
