How to Get Realistic Scenery to FSX

"FSX" is an abbreviation for "Microsoft Flight Simulator X," which is a simulation game released by Microsoft Game Studios in 2006. While the game ships with default scenery, you are also able to add realistic high-resolution scenery to it. These scenery packs are often released as commercial products that users can buy, but there are also some free versions available on the Internet. Once added to the simulation, it improves the realism of the visuals.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to a website with free realistic scenery such as Freewarescenery, Blueskyscenery or Flightsim. Download the realistic scenery you want to add to your game. The scenery description will list whether it is realistic or not.

    • 2

Extract the contents of the file you have downloaded to the folder called "Addon Scenery" located inside your "FSX" installation directory. The scenery should have its own folder name, such as "Greece Realistic," for example, after you have extracted it.

    • 3

Start "FSX" by double-clicking the shortcut on your desktop. Click "World" once the game has loaded and click "Scenery Library." Select "Add Area" to see the contents of your "FSX" folder.

    • 4

Double-click the "Addon Scenery" folder and you will see the folders containing all the custom scenery you have downloaded. Left click on the folder containing the realistic scenery you want to add to the game and click "OK."

    • 5

Click "OK" again and wait for "FSX" to rebuild to scenery. This takes a few moments, but a progress indicator shows how much time is remaining. Fly to the scenery you have added once the process is complete to see the difference.
