How to Make a Rapper Game

Rap has never been a common subject for video games, though some titles, like "Def Jam Vendetta," have tried to make up for this by offering big-name vocal talent and an innovative game-play experience. If you want to make your own rapper game, you will have to invent a rapper or stable of rappers, unless you obtain permission to create a game that uses real-life rappers. You will also have to decide what kind of rapper game yours will be, create graphics, sound effects and music and decide on a platform.

Instructions

Plan your rapper game. If you haven't done so already, pick a genre. You can create almost anything: a fighting game, an adventure title or even just a puzzle game with rap-themed graphics and funky beats playing in the background. Determine what your game's objective is. Does the player attempt to beat levels or try to achieve a higher score? Decide who your character or characters are also. Prepare an outline of the game. Write out your scenes, script your dialogue and create storyboard drawings of what your levels or environments will look like.

Create a rapper or group of rappers to star in your game. While it's probably a long shot, you can write the management of your favorite rap artist and ask permission to use his likeness in your game if you want. When creating a rapper, decide on a name and a background for him. Is he West Coast or East Coast? Figure out what his sound and rapping style are: is he a hardcore gang-banger or a laid-back ladies' man?

Decide how you would like to create the game. If you have experience with computer programming, you can use a language such as C++ or Assembly. If you don't know how to program, you can use software such as Game Maker which allows you to create games without previous programming experience. Download Game Maker from YoYo Games.

Make graphics for your rap game. You can use Microsoft Paint or other software. What program you choose depends upon how complex you want your sprites to be. Collect the sounds you want to use. If you want to sell your game, be sure that all the material, including the sounds, that you use in your game are unlicensed. Create music for your game. If you are a rapper yourself, write some lyrics and lay down some beats for your game. If not, find a friend who raps to help you out. You can also try to contact an unsigned or independent rap artist to see if he is willing to allow you to use his music in your video game.

Create or program your game. This process can take a very long time depending upon your previous game-making experience and what platform you use. Since Game Maker does not require you to write your own computer code, it may allow you to develop the game more quickly than writing code from scratch using C++ or Assembly. When you finish your game, share it with friends and others on the Internet.
