How to Make Runeword Items on D2

Blizzard Entertainment released the action role-playing game "Diablo 2" in 2000. In this game, you could insert gemstones that were dropped by enemies into equipment with special sockets, which boosted your skills and abilities. The expansion pack "Lord of Destruction" came out the following year. It included more options for customizing and improving socketed equipment. "LoD" introduced jewels and runes that also fit into sockets. Jewels are stand-alone items with their own qualities, while runes are used both on their own and in special combinations called Runewords. Runewords can enhance elemental resistances, combat abilities and much more.

Instructions

    • 1

Update the game with the latest Windows or Macintosh Expansion patch. This patch enables Runeword use in the game's single player and multiplayer modes, and it makes every rune available for you to find in the game.

    • 2

Locate a socketed piece of equipment. Sockets are found on shields, weapons and armor, and their names are shown in gray letters. These items are found in shops or during the course of battle. Use an item that has the same number of sockets as your Runeword has runes. For example, if your Runeword consists of three runes, use a three-socket item.

    • 3

Place the runes into the socketed slots of your equipment in the precise order that makes the Runeword. For example, the Runeword "Black" is created by inserting the runes "Thul", "Io" and "Nef" in that order.
