How to Make an OP in Minecraft

"Minecraft" is a creativity sandbox-style computer game in which you can freely create objects and manipulate the game world. You can play online on hosted servers or create your own server to host. If you host your own server you can make an OP, or operator, to help regulate the server and enforce server rules. An OP is another player who has administrative power on the server, being able to use kick, ban, teleport, spawn items and pardon commands.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and run "Minecraft_server.exe" from the "Minecraft" website. This will launch your own server.

    • 2

Type "/op [playername]" in the server console to make that player an operator on your server. Replace "[playername]" with the player's user name. This is a temporary status change to the player and will be removed when he leaves the server.

    • 3

Open the "ops.txt" file in the server folder and add the player's name to the list of OPs. Restart the server and that player will always be an OP until you remove his name from the "ops.txt" file.
