How to Make a Workbench in Minecraft

"Minecraft" revolves around making things, ranging from tools and weapons to entire towns or castles. In order to construct most pieces of equipment, however, the player needs a workbench. He can make basic two by two items in his inventory, but the workbench provides a three by three grid with which to build larger items, such as pickaxes and shovels. To build a workbench, all the player needs is to fill his inventory construction window with wooden planks.

     Stand next to a tree and left-click to hit it. After enough hits, you'll rip a chunk of wood off.

     Open your inventory and place the log in your crafting window. Any grid will do. This converts it into four wooden planks.

   • 3

     Place all four wooden planks in your crafting window. This turns them into a workbench.
