Sticks
To start making a minecart track, place a stick in the center square of the crafting bench. To get sticks, chop down or otherwise destroy a tree, then gather the wood blocks that fall out of the tree. Drop a wood block into any crafting bench slot to make planks; each wood block produces four planks. Put one plank into the center slot in the crafting bench, then drop another plank into the slot directly below it to make sticks.
Iron Ingots
Fill the six slots on the left- and right-hand sides of the crafting bench with iron ingots. To make iron ingots, mine an iron ore block, then place it in the top slot in a furnace. If you need to make a furnace, drop cobblestone blocks into the eight peripheral square in the crafting bench. Fill the bottom slot of the furnace with coal; wait for the furnace to convert the iron ore into ingots.
Minecarts
Minecart tracks are fairly useless without a minecart. To make a minecart, arrange five iron ingots in a "U" shape in the bottom five slots in the crafting bench. After you make a normal minecart, you can convert it into a powered minecart by placing the completed minecart in the bottom center square in the crafting bench, then adding a furnace in the center slot. To make a storage minecart, replace the furnace with a chest.
Use
To lay minecart tracks, enable the tracks in your inventory, then walk slowly forward, right-clicking the ground as you go. Enable a minecart in your inventory, then right-click on a section of the track to place the minecart on it. To get inside a minecart, walk up next to it and right-click it. Lay minecart tracks anywhere you need rapid transportation; you can also build minecart tracks down to a cavern, then use storage minecarts to move ore and other treasures from the cavern up to the surface.
