How to Compress Minecraft Textures

Texture packs for the computer game "Minecraft" change the look and feel of the game's world. A texture pack could, for example, replace the game's retro, low-resolution graphics with high-resolution textures or transform the medieval-style game world into a futuristic environment. "Minecraft"-focused websites provide the game's players with a forum for sharing and downloading user-created texture packs. If you've created your own texture pack for "Minecraft," compress it into a zip file before sharing on a "Minecraft" website. Compressing the texture files into one archive ensures that the recipient receives all of the necessary files, and it makes the texture pack much easier to download.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Start menu and click "Computer." Navigate to the folder in which you've saved the components of your "Minecraft" texture pack.

    • 2

Press and hold the "Ctrl" key and then click each of the files and folders you want to include in the texture pack. Include all of the folders containing the texture's graphics files, as well as the "pack.txt" description file.

    • 3

Right-click on one of the selected texture folders. Hover the mouse cursor over "Send To" and select "Compressed (Zipped) Folder" from the menu that appears. Windows will compress the texture pack's files into a zip file.
